Founding Product Engineer

Vwala is building the platform that will transform how European households manage their money. We’re early stage, we're funded, and we're growing. We're looking for a founding product engineer to join us, someone who wants to build something that matters, ship solutions end-to-end, and sees the opportunity in being early.

❓ About the Role

As a Product Engineer, you'll work closely with the founding team to take ideas from concept to shipped. What sets a product engineer apart from a full-stack engineer isn't the stack, it's where your attention sits. You're not waiting for a spec, and you're not done when the PR merges. You care whether the thing actually solves the problem, feels right, and moves the metric. You'll code (and need to be exceptional at it to own things end-to-end), with a strong platform team behind you for the deeper architectural calls. Are you the unicorn that can do it all? What you'll obsess over is whether something feels right: the UX, the perceived speed, the empty states, the polish that makes a personal-finance product feel trustworthy. Your center of gravity is product: shipping things people actually use and love, learning from real usage, and iterating fast.

This is a high-agency role. We’re looking for people with a founder mindset: identifying problems, proposing solutions, and taking ownership through execution. In an early-stage company, that means navigating ambiguity, making trade-offs with incomplete information, and moving forward when things aren't fully defined.

🛠️ What you'll do

• Work directly with the founders to shape solutions and take them from idea to shipped: discovery, design, build, launch, iterate.

• Build AI-powered functionality into the core of Vwala.

• Talk and be close to users (support tickets, interviews, …) and turn what you hear into product decisions.

• Prototype fast, ship behind feature flags, learn from real usage.

• Care about whether the metric moved, not just whether the solution shipped. Total Money Saved is the scoreboard.

• Build new user-facing solutions with beautiful and scalable UI components.

• You’ll set the bar for “making it Vwala”.

• Work across our full stack (front- and back-end) to get it done.

🫵 Who you are

• Experience building customer-facing products at a high-quality software company.

• Strong React and TypeScript fundamentals, with experience across the full stack.

• You have product sense and understand that details compound.

• Experience building user-facing AI agents (chat or voice) is a bonus; and if not, a heavy interest in figuring it out works just as well.

• You're comfortable without PM overhead. You can work with the team to help shape the problem, not just implement a pre-packaged solution.

• You treat AI as daily leverage, not a buzzword, but a real multiplier for how you work, think, and build.

• You have a high ownership mentality and can thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility

🌍 Location

We’re a hybrid team, working together from our Ghent office (MC Square, Oktrooiplein 1) 2–3 days per week, and remotely the rest of the time.

As we’re building both a team and a culture, being present in the office on our “office days” is an important part of how we do that, but we approach this with flexibility and trust.
